INJURY: Shocking Injury News Hits Chiefs Right After Major Trade—What’s the Impact?

The Kansas City Chiefs continue their undefeated streak after beating the Raiders on Sunday. As the only team with a perfect record in the NFL, the Chiefs are feeling good heading into their Monday Night Football matchup against the Buccaneers in Week 9.

The Chiefs’ win against the Raiders, however, wasn’t the smoothest ride. Patrick Mahomes rolled his ankle but was able to continue. Cornerback Nazeeh Johnson and tight end Jody Fortson left the game early.

Things aren’t looking good for Fortson. Chiefs insider Pete Sweeney reported on Monday afternoon that the fan favorite is heading to the injured reserve list.

Fortson played a season-high 19 snaps against the Raiders before leaving the game with a knee injury. He was seen not being able to put any weight on his right leg, and reporters in Las Vegas noted that he was on crutches after the game.

Now, the 28-year-old is going to miss at least the next four weeks. In his absence, Noah Gray and Jared Wiley will see an increased workload.

Despite the perfect start to the season, Chiefs GM Brett Veach has been active on the trade market. Not wanting to miss the opportunity for a three-peat, the Chiefs aren’t leaving anything to chance.

After acquiring star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins last week, Kansas City traded for elite pass rusher Josh Uche on Monday. With the November 5 trade deadline looming, we can expect to see even more moves from the Chiefs front office.

Injuries to Johnson and Fortson could potentially increase the likelihood of another trade before then.
