The San Francisco 49ers elevated two players ahead of their Week 8 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, bringing in depth at key positions.
Safety Adrian Amos, who was signed to the team’s practice squad two weeks ago, will make his 49ers debut as a standard elevation to the active roster.
Amos, a nine-year NFL veteran, most recently played for the Houston Texans last year, splitting time between them and the New York Jets, starting three games for the latter.
He will serve as safety depth for the 49ers, who will be without Talanoa Hufanga as he remains on Injured Reserve, nursing a wrist injury that will keep him out for the considerable future.
San Francisco is expected to start Ji’Ayir Brown and rookie Malik Mustapha but will now have Amos and veteran George Odum as their top reserve safeties for the crucial Week 8 game.
Amos spent the majority of his career with the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, serving as an eight-year starter before playing in a reserve role last year with the Texans and Jets. He has yet to play this season and will be entering his 10th NFL season.
San Francisco also elevated kicker Anders Carlson for the second consecutive week, as he’ll take over the starting job once again due to injuries at the position.
The 49ers have Jake Moody still nursing his ankle injury, with the hopes of returning him after the bye week, while Matthew Wright, who was signed after the former got hurt, is on Injured Reserve.
Carlson hit two field goals in his 49ers debut, connecting from 55 yards and 24 yards against the Chiefs, but did miss an extra point in the 28-18 loss.
San Francisco enters a big week standing at 3-4 currently, good for last place in the NFC West. They face a struggling Dallas Cowboys team who are coming off a bye week, and are looking to gain some much-needed momentum heading into their own bye week.
