Many believed the 49ers would once again represent the NFC in the Super Bowl this year. While that is still possible, there is enough time to turn things around, but injuries have been a major issue.
Now, the 49ers will have to continue without star receiver Brandon Aiyuk for the rest of the season. The team’s receiving group has been hit hard this year, and with the trade deadline approaching, could things change?
ESPN’s Seth Walder mentioned Los Angeles Rams star receiver Cooper Kupp as a potential big trade target for San Francisco.
“Which player should they target? Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp,” Walder said. “The many playmakers the 49ers seemed to have in August are now scarce. Brandon Aiyuk is out for the season (torn ACL/MCL), (Christian McCaffrey) is still out, and Deebo Samuel Sr. is dealing with pneumonia.
“Kupp, who is expected to return soon from an ankle injury, has averaged 2.0 yards per route run since the start of 2023 and has had a lot of success under coach Sean McVay, so it’s likely Kyle Shanahan could maximize his talent, too.
If the Rams are willing to trade Kupp, San Francisco should be the first team to approach them; it’s better to give draft picks to a rival than to anyone else.”
It appears that Kupp might be available, as rumors about him are growing. San Francisco has plenty of star players and the most salary cap space in the league at just over $53 million.
Kupp is set to return from his own injury soon. Would he be a good fit for the 49ers before the Nov. 5 trade deadline?
He certainly would.
