UPDATE : Pittsburgh Steelers legend not sold on Russell Wilson, offense‘s big leap: ’Pump the brakes’

The Pittsburgh Steelers offense has scored 31 points per game in Russell Wilson‘s first two starts. Does that mean the team’s offense is suddenly a top-10 unit, or is there more to be seen from this group?

Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger wants to slow down the Steelers’ offense for now. He believes that they will face better defenses in the future and that the personnel needs to continue its steady climb.

“How good are the defenses that we’ve played so far?” Roethlisberger questioned. “They’ve been down some really good DBs. They’ve been thin in the secondary. What’s gonna happen when all of a sudden we play a team that’s got a really good secondary, a really good pass rush? They can double a guy, or maybe not double George [Pickens] and put a really good guy on [Calvin] Austin [III].

I just want to pump the brakes a little bit, just because we don’t know what we’re gonna get when we face a really good defense. But, they’re doing what they have to do right now, and that’s all that matters.”

Roethlisberger has a point in that the Jets and Giants were down defensive backs, but coming into those games, both of those defenses ranked as top ten passing defenses but struggled to stop the run.

The Steelers will run into teams that struggle mightily against the pass but can stuff the run, which will be another test for how the team can adapt to different matchups on their schedule.
