Are the Dallas Cowboys so disheveled that their haters are suddenly showing sympathy toward them? While some NFL teams would consider a 3-3 record to be, well, average. But with five Super Bowls and a rich legacy that circles the globe, the Cowboys have high – sometimes irrational – standards for success. This week a 38-point home loss to the Detroit Lions was exacerbated by owner Jerry Jones getting irate with radio hosts who were simply asking the questions all fans want answered.
The dysfunction isn’t lost on long-time hater and NBA Kevin Durant. Born in D.C. Durant is a die-hard fan of the Washington Commanders. But even he is admitting that it’s uncomfortable to see the Cowboys fall this far this fast. “It’s almost sad now,” Durant said this week on The Up and Adams podcast. “I’ve seen Jerry Jones going off on reporters, which I was cool with, but it seems like other people didn’t quite understand what he was going through. So you could just tell the energy around there, they just need to get a W, that’s all it takes. Winning cures all, losing just makes everything worse and magnifies all of the stuff that you sweep under the rug when you win. So they just need to get a W.”
The sorta sympathy didn’t last however. Durant, whose Commanders lead the NFC East at 4-2, couldn’t help but turn sarcastic. “I’m very sad man, 47-9?” he said with a chuckle. “You know why? Because we just know they’re not that good. At least if it would’ve been a tight game, they could’ve just fooled people into believing that they’re contenders, and then they fall flat on their face right when I want them to, like in the playoffs or right before the playoffs. But right now, it’s just no fun when they just get beat that bad. You want them to lose, but not like that.”
