When the news first broke that Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott would be going to injured reserve with a hamstring injury, people were confused as to why he needed so much time off for a relatively minor injury. One former Super Bowl champion may have took his conclusion too far and now he’s being torched for it.
On Tuesday’s episode of The Facility, former Super Bowl wide receiver and current NFL analyst James Jones declared that Dak was likely “quitting” on the team. Jones reasoned that a mere hamstring injury shouldn’t necessitate Dak needing that much time off and declared that it’s a case of Dak quitting rather than fighting through it.
“Dak is quitting,” Jones said. “And it’s crazy because it ain’t even funny though. My man is quitting on these dudes. I’ve had a hamstring (injury) plenty of times. And I’m back the next week.
“I’m not Tyreek Hill. It don’t take no four weeks for you to heal from no hamstring. You’re no Lamar Jackson, you’re not Jalen Hurts. You’re not running, where are you running to? Four weeks? Basically put me on ice for four weeks. No fight, no nothing.
“This is a hamstring for a quarterback who is not explosive at the quarterback spot. If they tried to hold me out, I would say ‘Who am I running away from?’ I’ve been 4.5-4.6, I’m gonna stay 4.5-4.6 with a bad hammy. So I’m going out here and playing. Dak Prescott, with the way the season is going right now… We heard him on the sideline with what he said. Dak is quitting on these boys.
“Is it off the bone or something? Because there is no way you’re telling me you’re out four weeks with no answers, no fight, no nothing for a hamstring. And you’re a quarterback. There ain’t no way.
“Drop back and get the ball out. Your hamstring don’t have to be 100 percent at the quarterback spot. Dak Prescott is quitting on these boys. We know, we’ve been in the facility when dudes are hurt and really can’t go. And we know when dudes are messing around.”
Well, as it turns out the hamstring WAS off the bone.
Cowboys insider Jane Slater reported on Wednesday that Dak’s injury was a “partial avulsion of his hamstring tendon which is partially torn off the bone.”
After that report was released, Cowboys fans swarmed to social media, calling out Jones for saying such terrible things about Dak without knowing what the injury was:
“But James Jones says he quit on the Cowboys. Then the next day doubled down and says he felt Dak didn’t try hard enough to play through it,” one user teased.
“Come outside James Jones. I promise we not gon jump you,” wrote another.
“Bruh Hamstring is off the bone. James Jones and everyone else buying into that “quitting” (expletive) should be ashamed of their mf selves,” a third wrote.
We really can’t blame them all for feeling that way. Jones said a lot of very unfair things about Dak without having any info to back it up.
Will James Jones publicly apologize to Dak Prescott?
