Chris Boswell made it 2 for 2 in collecting an NFL monthly honor.
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ veteran kicker Thursday was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for October. Boswell made all 22 of his placekick attempts during the Steelers’ four games over the past four weeks, three of which were victories.
Boswell, 33, was 12 for 12 on field goals and 10 for 10 on extra-point tries and has missed only one field goal attempt all season. A 10-year veteran, Boswell was also AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September.
Boswell’s honor was announced by the league at the same time it named Steelers slot cornerback Beanie Bishop the NFL Rookie of the Month for October.
Cook cut
Reserve offensive tackle Dylan Cook was waived off the active roster, the Steelers announced Thursday. Cook opened the season on injured reserve because of a foot injury. He returned to practice Oct. 17, which opened up a 21-day window during which he needed to be activated, or he would be lost for the season.
This move could lead to the Steelers instead sliding Cook through waivers and keeping him around via their practice squad.
A former junior college quarterback who went drafted out of Montana, the 6-foot-6, 305-pound Cook was the biggest surprise from 2023 training camp who made the 53-man roster. He stayed on the active roster all season but never played a snap.
The injury-riddled Steelers offensive line, for the time being, has Calvin Anderson and Max Scharping as backup tackles to starters Dan Moore and Broderick Jones. Doug Nester and John Leglue are on the practice squad but are considered more as guards.
Ogundeji back
The Steelers continued to bounce outside linebacker Ade Ogundeji on and off the active roster to the practice squad. Two days after he was waived off the 53-man, Ogundeji was re-signed to the Steelers practice squad.
Ogundeji is fifth on the organizational depth chart at outside linebacker, but he had played a bigger role in recent weeks because of injuries to Alex Highsmith, Jeremiah Moon and Nick Herbig. But Highsmith and Moon are back, and Herbig could return to game action as soon as Nov. 10 at Washington after the bye week.
