Russell Wilson is now 2-0 as the starting quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers following a 26-18 Week 8 win over the New York Giants on “Monday Night Football.”
Although Wilson has looked like a guy who can lead the Steelers to the promised land through two weeks after his return from a calf injury, linebacker T.J. Watt remains the best player on the 6-2 Pittsburgh squad, and that proved true against the Giants.
To honor his stellar play against New York, the NFL revealed that Watt has been named Week 8’s AFC Defensive Player of the Week. However, Watt is not the only Steeler to get an award on Wednesday, as wide receiver Calvin Austin III was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week after taking a 73-yard punt return to the house.
Following the news, Wilson took to social media to send a congratulatory message to Watt on his Instagram story. “No One Better,” Wilson said to Watt on his story.

Watt won this award after recording seven total tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. His second sack of the game came with under three minutes to play as the Giants were looking to tie the game in the red zone. The former Wisconsin Badgers star stripped quarterback Daniel Jones of the ball and jumped on top of it. In his second game after taking over the starting quarterback spot for Justin Fields, Wilson completed 20-of-28 passes for 278 yards and a touchdown while adding seven yards on the ground. With the win, the Steelers now hold sole possession of first place in the AFC North, which was aided by the Baltimore Ravens falling to the Cleveland Browns 29-24.
Pittsburgh has now entered its bye-week as it prepares for two tough battles in Weeks 10 and 11, getting the Washington Commanders in the nation’s capital and then returning home to face the Ravens.
