In 2023, the Dallas Cowboys averaged 112.9 rushing yards per game, good for 14th in the NFL. Running back Tony Pollard had his second-straight 1,000-yard season for Dallas, posting 1,005 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns while averaging 4.0 yards per carry. Jerry Jones, however, deemed Pollard too expensive to keep and allowed him to walk in free agency.
Everything Jones and the Cowboys did (or did not do) to address the running back position since then has been an unmitigated disaster. Now, Dallas is averaging 77.2 rushing yards per game, the worst mark in the NFL.
It’s a situation that many fans could see coming based on the decisions the front office made in the offseason.
