Dallas Cowboys Fans Are Furious with Jerry Jones Following His Latest Excuse for not Signing Derrick Henry

The Dallas Cowboys had the week off following their Week Six disaster against the Detroit Lions. Their 47-9 loss dropped them to 3-3 on the season, and kept them winless when playing in Dallas during the 2024 NFL season.

It also highlighted a glaring issue that fans predicted would be an ongoing concern all season long: the Cowboys have virtually no run game on offense.

Last season, Dallas averaged 112.9 rushing yards per game, which ranked 14th in the NFL. However, Tony Pollard, who had rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2022 and 2023, signed with the Tennessee Titans in free agency, leaving the Cowboys in need of a running back.

The Dallas Cowboys Signed Ezekiel Elliott Instead of Derrick Henry

When Pollard signed with the Titans, many Cowboys fans wanted Jerry Jones to go out and get Derrick Henry, who was also a free agent. Instead, Jones brought back former Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, who had spent the 2023 season with the New England Patriots.

Jones has always defended choosing Elliott over Henry on the free agent market because of the cost. However, Henry signed a very affordable two-year $16 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens, a price that continues to drive Cowboys fans mad whenever their offense takes the field.

Now, Dallas averages just 77.2 rushing yards per game, making them the absolute worst rushing offense in the NFL this year. Meanwhile, Henry leads the NFL in carries (134), rushing yards (873), rushing touchdowns (eight), rushing yards per game (124.7), all-purpose yards (935), and all-purpose touchdowns (10).

Jones, however, does not think Henry would be nearly as good with the Cowboys as he is this year with the Ravens.

Fans Are Furious with Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Over His Latest Derrick Henry Comments

Speaking on 105.3 the Fan in Dallas on Tuesday, Jones was, once again, asked about the Cowboys’ lack of rushing offense and why he did not think the team could afford Henry.

This time, not only did he state that Henry was too expensive, even at $8 million a season, but also that he did not think the four-time Pro Bowl running back would be that great in Dallas’ offense:

“Derrick is having a career year. I don’t know if he’d be having a career year in our situation… We don’t run that type of offense at all… Derrick didn’t fit, principally due to managing the cap.”

As one might expect, Cowboys fans are furious with this response:

If the Cowboys don’t turn their season around soon, Jones will continue to get questions about the NFL’s rushing leader this season and how he easily could have been a Cowboy.

Fans may want to buckle up.
